The city of Beijing in China will be the host city of the Olympic Winter Games in 2022, which will make it the first city to have hosted both the summer and winter Olympics. Beijing will host the opening and closing ceremonies and the indoor ice events. The sliding events (bobsled, luge, skeleton) and some alpine skiing will be held at Xiaohaituo Mountain in Yanqing District, an outlying subdivision of Beijing located about 80 km (55 miles) northwest of the city center. Other skiing events will be at the Taizicheng ski area in Zhangjiakou, about 220 km (140 miles) from Beijing. The games will be from 4 to 20 February 2022. and will be followed by the Winter Paralympic Games, 4 to 13 March 2022.

The Games of the XXXII Olympiad, the 2020 Summer Olympics, will be based in Tokyo, with selected events held throughout Japan. Tokyo will be the only Asian city to have hosted two summer Olympics, having hosted the games in 1964. With the Opening Ceremony on July 24, the official 16 days of the games will end on August 9. A few soccer games be held as early as the 22nd. The Opening Ceremony for the Paralympics is on August 25, with the Closing Ceremony on September 6. For the first time, climbing, karate, skateboarding and surfing will feature at the Olympics, while baseball and softball make their return after being dropped from the 2012 Olympics.

UEFA today announced the postponement of its flagship national team competition, UEFA EURO 2020, due to be played in June and July this year. The health of all those involved in the game is the priority, as well as to avoid placing any unnecessary pressure on national public services involved in staging matches. The move will help all domestic competitions, currently on hold due to the COVID-19 emergency, to be completed. All UEFA competitions and matches (including friendlies) for clubs and national teams for both men and women have been put on hold until further notice. The UEFA EURO 2020 play-off matches and international friendlies, scheduled for the end of March, will now be played in the international window at the start of June, subject to a review of the situation.

The jubilee 40th Budapest Spring Festival, between 3–19 April, awaits visitors with a programme that involves many of the arts, with events in classical music, opera, jazz, world music, dance, contemporary circus, theatre and the visual arts. The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, and the Prime Minister of Japan, Abe Shinzo, held a conference call this morning to discuss the constantly changing environment with regard to COVID-19 and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The unprecedented and unpredictable spread of the outbreak has seen the situation in the rest of the world deteriorating. Yesterday, the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the COVID-19 pandemic is “accelerating”. There are more than 375,000 cases now recorded worldwide and in nearly every country, and their number is growing by the hour. In the present circumstances and based on the information provided by the WHO today, the IOC President and the Prime Minister of Japan have concluded that the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community.

And for the winners of the shows scheduled between Thursday and Saturday (February 20th- 22nd) the final on Sunday, 23 February is ensured. The “Flight of the Angel” is a traditional event that goes back to the Serenissima period where an unknown guest of Venice, flying along a rope from San Marco bell tower to the middle of the square, will offer an homage to the Doge, and will be greeted by the crowded parterre of the period costumes parades of the Historical Re-enactments. As a conclusion, the embrace of the Angel and the Doge will smooth the atmosphere of a square galvanized by scenographical effects always appreciated by the Italian and international networks. The girl winner of the 2019 edition of the “Festa delle Marie” (Marie contest), will be the Angel of the new Carnival 2020.

The traditional “Festa delle Marie” will start at San Pietro di Castello at 2.30 pm, will parade all along via Garibaldi and Riva degli Schiavoni and it will reach San Marco stage at 4.00 pm, where the twelve “Marias” will be introduced to the crowd waiting for them. It evokes the homage that the Venetian Doge offered every year to twelve beautiful but humble venetian girls, offering them magnificent jewels as a bridal dowry. The “Festa delle Marie” is articulated in different days and it is the opportunity to admire the traditional venetian period costumes. The event will be inaugurated Saturday 15th of February, with the parade of the twelve girls selected in the previous weeks.

This festival begins with lightening of bonfire on Holi eve. Next day, people play Holi with different types of colours, abirs and gulals. They greet each other with Shubh Holi i.e. Happy Holi and send warm wishes of the festival.

On Sunday 9th February at 11.00 am the water parade by Coordinamento Associazioni Remiere di Voga alla Veneta will sail along the Canal Grande to the folkloristic district of Cannaregio, where the audience will watch these unique boats and where the eno-gastronomic stalls by A.E.P.E., with the traditional carnival delicacies, will offer venetian food specialities. Music and rhythm will accompaign the water parade.

Mevlana Festival, (7 – 17 Dec 2019)
Born at the beginning of the 13th century, Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi was an Anatolian holy man who gave hope and inspiration to humanity, and who died in Konya in 1273. Mevlana believed that, through music and dance, one can enter a religious state of ecstasy, thereby discovering divine love, and he created a religion/ philosophy based on tolerance. His followers, the Mevlevi Order were formed in Konya and are also known as Whirling Dervishes, famous for their very dynamic and ecstatic rituals and dance according to the practice of their order. Every year in December, the famous Mevlana Festival is held at the Mevlana Museum with sema as the most popular moment of the event. Sema is a whirling dance performed in traditional symbolic costume and is famous across the country.
